Marijuana Extracts Relieve Intractable Cancer Pain Better Than THC, Study Says

Plymouth, United Kingdom: The administration of Sativex, an oral spray
consisting of natural cannabis extracts (primarily THC and cannabidiol
aka CBD), significantly reduces cancer pain compared to placebo or THC
alone, according to clinical trial data published online in the
Journal of Pain Management.

プリマス、英国: ジャーナル "Pain Management (疼痛管理)" に掲載された臨
床試験結果によれば、天然の大麻抽出物（主に THC およびカナビディオール、
別名 CBD）からなる経口噴霧剤である "Sativex" の投与によって、プラセボ
（擬似薬）や純粋な THC と比べて癌の痛みを有意に軽減する事ができる。

An international team of investigators from the United Kingdom,
Belgium, and Romania assessed the analgesic properties of Sativex in
patients with intractable cancer pain. One hundred and seventy-seven
subjects participated in the double blind, randomized,
placebo-controlled trial. Patients received Sativex, THC extract, or
placebo.

英国、ベルギー、ルーマニアから集まった国際的な研究チームが、難治性の癌
疼痛を持つ患者に対する Sativex の鎮痛剤としての効用を評価した。177 人の
被験者が二重盲検法で無作為化されたプラセボ比較試験に参加した。患者らは
Sativex、THC 抽出物、プラセボのいずれかを受け取った。

Researchers reported that patients' pain scores improved significantly
with Sativex compared to placebo or THC alone.

研究者らの報告によると、Sativex を受け取った患者の痛みの程度は、プラセ
ボもしくは純粋な THC を与えられた者と比べて有意に軽減されていた。

Authors concluded, "The results of this study show that the THC/CBD
extract [Sativex] is an efficacious adjunctive treatment for
cancer-related pain in patients who are not achieving an adequate
analgesic response to opioids."

ドで十分な鎮痛効果を得られない癌患者の痛みに対して、THC/CBD の抽出物で

They added: "[I]n this study, the THC/CBD extract showed a more
promising efficacy profile than the THC extract alone. This finding is
supported by evidence of additional synergy between THC and CBD. CBD
may enhance the analgesic potential of THC by means of potent inverse
agonism at CB2 receptors, which may produce anti-inflammatory effects,
along with its ability to inhibit immune cell migration. ... These
results are very encouraging and merit further study."

A 2005 clinical trial previously demonstrated that cannabis extracts
significantly reduced cancer pain compared to placebo.

An estimated 25 percent to 40 percent of cancer patients experience
some type of neuropathic pain for which conventionally available
analgesics are not consistently effective.

25 パーセントから 40 パーセントの癌患者は、通常の鎮痛剤では確実な効果を
得られない種類の神経因性疼痛を経験していると推定される。

In 2006, the United States Food and Drug Administration authorized
recruitment for the first-ever US trial assessing the use of Sativex
for cancer pain. To date, 360 patients have been recruited into the
study from fourteen countries in North America, Europe, Latin America,
and South Africa. Results from the trial are expected to be reported
in the spring of 2010.

2006 年にはアメリカ合衆国食品医薬品局が、癌疼痛に対しての Sativex の効
果を評価するためのアメリカで初めての試験に参加する者を募集する許可を出
している。今までに北米、ヨーロッパ、南米、南アフリカの 14 の国から 360

Sativex is already legally approved in Canada for the treatment of
multiple sclerosis or cancer pain, and is pending regulatory approval
in Great Britain and the European Union.

り、英国や欧州連合でも規制認可の是非が審議されている。
